Spor X is a ten-storey office building conceived to become one of the most sustainable office buildings in the Nordic region.
Developed together with DARK Arkitekter and Betonmast, the building accommodates offices, a canteen and a conference centre, while meeting the Passive House standard, Energy Class A and BREEAM-NOR Outstanding certification. Sustainability guided every aspect of the project, from its location next to the railway station and the decision not to provide car parking, to the use of locally sourced timber throughout the superstructure. Timber was selected not only for its environmental performance but also to reduce the loads imposed on the foundations due to the site’s challenging ground conditions. All load-bearing elements above ground are timber, including the CLT and glulam stabilising cores, as well as the beam-to-column connections, which are made entirely from timber.
Degree of Freedom was responsible for the structural engineering from concept design through to detailed design. Our scope also included the development of the timber fabrication model and technical support during construction.
