Jungle Bridge forms part of the pedestrian and cycle route through the Groruddalen valley in Oslo.
Designed by Degree of Freedom in collaboration with Saaha and Asplan Viak, the bridge forms part of the pedestrian and cycle route through the Groruddalen valley, linking the city with the recreational areas to the east of Oslo. With a 36-metre main span, it keeps pedestrian and cycle traffic out of the undisturbed valley and stream corridor, while significantly improving accessibility. The suspension structure is supported by six locked-coil cables arranged in a parabolic profile and carries a 2-metre-wide deck formed by perforated, non-slip steel panels. The bridge was designed using lightweight prefabricated elements, allowing it to be assembled without cranes and minimising its impact on the natural surroundings.
Degree of Freedom was responsible for the bridge design and structural engineering throughout the project. Our scope also included technical support during fabrication and construction, as well as inspection of the steel structure.
