Moldhaug Bridge provides a new pedestrian and cycle crossing over the Porsgrunn River, linking Porsgrunn town centre with the residential areas on the western bank.
The 204-metre bridge comprises five spans and incorporates two 25-metre bascule leaves to maintain navigation along the river. The structure combines steel box girders with a composite steel-concrete deck, while all mechanical equipment required for the opening mechanism is fully integrated into the bridge design. Its location in the heart of the town requires close integration with the existing urban infrastructure and a careful balance between functional, technical and architectural requirements.
Degree of Freedom is responsible for the structural engineering of the project.
