Located on the border between Norway and Sweden, this cable-stayed bridge has become a gateway to Norway from the E18 highway.
Designed by Degree of Freedom in collaboration with Multiconsult, who was responsible for the remaining disciplines, the 75-metre-long bridge comprises an asymmetrical steel box girder and a 53-metre mast. Featuring a circular, tapered cross-section, the mast is stabilised by a cable system anchored in three directions, allowing for an exceptionally slender structural solution. The deck follows a 60-metre radius curve in plan and is supported along its outer edge by stay cables connected to the mast. The bridge carries two traffic lanes together with a shared pedestrian and cycle path.
Degree of Freedom was responsible for the bridge design and structural engineering throughout the project. Our scope also included technical support during fabrication and construction, as well as inspection of the steel structure.
