Flesefossen is a roadside rest area overlooking the Flesefossen waterfall along the Norwegian Scenic Route Rv 13 in Ryfylke.
The project forms part of the Norwegian Scenic Routes programme, a network of 18 routes where architecture and art enhance the experience of Norway’s landscapes. Designed by Haugen/Zohar Architects, the rest area is organised around an open, linear structure that frames views of the waterfall while defining a gentle transition between the road and the surrounding landscape. Built in steel and timber on reinforced concrete foundations, its flowing form reflects the erosive forces that have shaped the valley over centuries. The structure incorporates viewpoints, seating areas and a service building, while organising the arrival sequence between the parking area and the waterfall.
Degree of Freedom provided structural engineering services throughout the project, from concept design to construction, including technical support during the construction phase.
